How Authors Change the World

How Authors Change the World (Workshop Details inside!)

March 27, 20248 min read

Hi! I hope this article finds you well.

As the Book Sales School summit winded down with ~3,000 attendees participating, I want to say thank you for your messages, like this one:

"Hey Kris,

You have mesmerized me once again!

The Book Sales School Summit was gold! Thanks for your efforts in organizing such a great event. You almost single-handedly interviewed all the guests - I admire your stamina!
You not only curated your guests but also ensured that they answered the questions you perceived as helpful to the authors.
You represented the authors' interests well.

The high point of the summit, among others, was when you empathized with Paula Johnson over the loss of her husband. I watched as you immediately switched from her interview to understanding how she might be feeling, giving her the opportunity to 'let out' before continuing the interview. Your good heart and understanding were evident.
What can I say but thanks and God bless you!

May the Most High meet you in your areas of need.

I remember your sharing about your early childhood in your email and couldn't help but hope your parents are still around to see how successful you have become.

OK! Enough of my ranting; otherwise, I would make reading the mail a chore.

Cheers,
Modesty"

Or Paula's message:

"Hi Kris,

Thank you so much for the Book Sales School Summit. You were terrific!

I watch many summits and have seen many of yours. I believe you are the best host! I love the questions you ask of every presenter. You keep them on track and ask them questions the rest of us want to know. You make sure each presenter explains what they mean.

All good wishes to you and Happy Spring!

Paula"

While it may seem like a small thing to send a kind note, they mean a lot to me. Ray and I work very hard to help authors and online business owners achieve faster results and a smoother journey than we experienced. Knowing that the event helped you is the most important metric of success. Although, of course, we sincerely appreciate it when you support us by purchasing a Premium Pass or any of our products or services.

As authors, we are doing an important service to the world. A very small percentage of the population would even consider attending a training event, and even fewer would consider buying a Premium Pass or a course, let alone coaching. But books are something a lot more people are open to investing time in. So books are more than bound pages; they are bridges for people to knowledge, to feeling not alone, to gaining life experiences.

And for you as an author, they are also bridges to your readers. An opportunity to positively impact someone's life and build a base of readers and clients who value your work.

As a writer, you connect people to new ideas, emotions, and experiences. Your work does not just entertain. It educates, inspires, brings people together, and gives hope.

Authors make a huge contribution to the world by:

  1. Promoting Empathy and Understanding: Through our narratives, we as authors allow readers to step into the shoes of other people, experiencing lives and perspectives very different from their own. Gaining life experience they otherwise would never gain. Helping them avoid some mistakes they could have made. This helps develop empathy, understanding, and patience among readers, contributing to a more compassionate society.

  2. Preserving and Transmitting Knowledge: Books serve as vessels for preserving knowledge, culture, and history, making sure that valuable information and stories are passed down through generations. This allows for the continuation of cultural heritage and the sharing of human experiences across time and space. My books, for example, are read all over the world, in countries which I probably will never visit.

  3. Stimulating Critical Thinking and Creativity: This is where my books focus heavily. Both as nonfiction works and fiction works with a focus on helping readers develop critical thinking skills. But if you think about it, many fiction books that are not designed specifically for developing critical thinking skills like mine are, still help readers develop critical thinking skills and creativity. It is done by presenting complex characters, intricate plots, thought-provoking themes, and showing real-life situations and consequences which helps readers understand how the world actually works. As authors, we challenge readers to think critically and creatively. This not only helps readers develop analytical skills but also encourages innovative thinking and problem-solving abilities.

  4. Encouraging Lifelong Learning: We, as authors, ignite curiosity and a love for learning by making learning interesting and captivating. This motivates readers to explore new topics, acquire new skills, and pursue knowledge throughout their lives, contributing to personal growth and development and even to a better future for readers' children.

  5. Supporting Mental Health and Well-being: Reading has been shown to reduce stress, improve mental health, and offer a form of escapism from the challenges of everyday life. As authors, we provide a sanctuary for readers, offering comfort, solace, and a means to explore life in a safe and reflective manner.

  6. Fostering Social Change and Advocacy: Through our work, we as authors, can highlight social injustices, challenge the status quo, and inspire action. Just think about Mavis (one of my books) and her challenging journey. Books have historically played a key role in driving social and political change. As authors we raise awareness about critical issues, and mobilizing communities towards a common cause.

  7. Enhancing Communication Skills: It's not going to be news to anyone that writing and reading enhance vocabulary, language proficiency, and communication skills. By articulating complex ideas and emotions effectively, we help readers improve their own ability to communicate. And communication skills are vital for success in life (personally and professionally).

  8. Contributing to the Economy and Quality of Life: As authors, we contribute significantly to the economy through the publishing industry, literary tourism, and related sectors. We also improve quality of life by providing diverse forms of entertainment, education, and artistic expression that help people feel their life is worth living. Even many shows and movies are based on books. So they would not exist without someone initially writing a book with a story that later was repurposed for a show or a movie. It is my dream to make Mavis and Turquoise Eyes into high-quality shows.

  9. Inspiring and Motivating: As authors, we often serve as sources of inspiration and motivation, encouraging readers to pursue their dreams, overcome obstacles, and find purpose and meaning in their lives. We uplift and empower our readers.

  10. Building Community and Connection: Books have the power to bring people together, creating a sense of community and helps readers not feel alone. Book clubs and online forums allow readers to connect over shared interests, discuss ideas, and form meaningful relationships.

I am sure there are more reasons why our work as authors is important, but this is what comes to mind right now.

Thank you for the important work you do as a writer. It truly makes a difference in the world.

I will wrap this up by saying that Ray and I are co-hosting a workshop today. I hope to see you there. It's free to attend. And if you register you should be able to get a replay if you can't access live. But we hope to see you there live.

When: Wednesday, March 27th, at 2pm EST

Also, some of you reached out asking about continuous access to the summit. If you missed the deadline to purchase lifetime access to the summit (Premium Pass), you may still be able to do it. I tested the link this morning and it was still working. You should be able to still get it here. Of course, the purchase of a Premium Pass or any of our products supports Ray and me in our work and allows us to do summits like this.

That is all for today. I hope you will enjoy the rest of your day.

Warmest regards,
Kris Safarova
